Inaugural Wylie A. Aitken Professor of Law, Race, and Social Justice Selected by Chapman University

By Aitken Aitken Cohn

Aitken*Aitken*Cohn is proud to announce Firm Founder Wylie A. Aitken established a new professorship at Chapman University’s Dale E. Fowler School of Law in efforts to further the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

The inaugural Wylie A. Aitken Professor of Law, Race, and Social Justice will be Dale E. Fowler School of Law Professor Janine Young Kim. Dr. Kim joined Chapman University in 2016 and has since made a name for herself by teaching on the topics of race and social justice. Her teachings focus on race and law, discrimination, criminal punishment, and criminal law and procedures.

As Chair and now Emeritus of Chapman University’s Board of Trustees, Wylie has taken up a key role in buoying initiatives to establish diversity at all levels. It is part of a long-term plan that includes installing services for students and faculty to further assist in their development and education.

Most recently, Chapman joined Cal LAW Pathways, which establishes a direct path from high schools, community colleges, four-year universities, and law schools into law or law-related careers in efforts to reflect the diverse population of California.

“Law and justice are the foundation of this country, which recognizes that social justice gives equal recognition to all without regard to race, country of origin or economic status,” said Aitken. “This professorship and Professor Kim’s work reflect that these principles should be, and are, at the very core of the Chapman University Fowler School of Law.”

Wylie Aitken is a nationally recognized trial lawyer and founding partner of Aitken*Aitken*Cohn, in Santa Ana, California.
