It might be easy to get caught up in the grandeur and stature of a vehicle-accident case that carries with it a $55 million judgment against the United States government.  But for this father-son team at Aitken * Aitken * Cohn, who secured that groundbreaking verdict against a government worker who was negligent behind the wheel, other elements were far more important.

Like the fact that a family was torn apart and needed help.  That an innocent 5-year-old little girl named Leilani, who was safely secured in her car seat, is now paralyzed from the neck down and dependent on a ventilator for survival.  That Leilani’s mother, June, will never get to watch her daughter dance at her wedding or have a child of her own.   Despite the tragedy, the judgment assured that the family would have the means, to provide life-time care for this precious little girl.  Those raw, human aspects are what matter most at Aitken * Aitken * Cohn.

The firm’s work has also led to important consumer safety and regulation reform within California law.   After a family’s carefree day at Disneyland turned tragic when, as their children watched, a father was killed and a mother disfigured on the Sailing Ship Columbia ride. California lawmakers initiated legislative changes in theme park regulation.

These changes also assisted in the investigation of another matter, that the Aitken firm represented, which stemmed from the death of a young man, on the Big Thunder Mountain theme ride.  Due in part to Aitken * Aitken * Cohn’s unwavering team, Disney, a global brand, adopted changes in the way its rides operate.
