Changing California Law One Resolution at a Time
April 16, 2015
Boasting more than 9,000 members, the Orange County Bar Association is one of the largest voluntary bar associations in California. OCBA President Ashleigh Aitken recognizes its enormity and believes that most members are not taking advantage of their opportunities and benefits. She takes this month’s president page to highlight one of the many committees that members can join at no additional cost: the Legislative Resolutions Committee.
Every year, the Legislative Resolutions Committee proposes “creative solutions to law-related issues in the form of resolutions that, if adopted, are brought to California legislature.” The resolutions are presented at the annual Conference of California Bar Associations (CCBA). Ashleigh explains that as a result of their hard work, the OCBA has impacted the law on issues dealing with telephonic appearances, homeowner rights, and changes to the criminal code. Members interested in joining the committee were asked to attend the OCBA Spring Caucus on April 29, 2015.
