AAC’s Metrolink Accident Lawyers Investigating Injury Crash Between USC Shuttle and Metro Rail Train

Aitken* Aitken* Cohn is closely monitoring the aftermath of an injury collision involving a USC shuttle and a Metro train near the USC campus late Tuesday morning.

Sixteen people needed medical attention. The incident happened just before noon on Exposition Boulevard, between Normandie Avenue and Figueroa Street.

The Metro E line train, carrying approximately 150 passengers, collided with the USC shuttle, which had two occupants at the time. Both were hospitalized—one with minor injuries and one with moderate injuries.

Emergency services transported 18 people—16 from the train and two from the shuttle—to the hospital. Another 37 were treated and released.

Passengers who spoke with KNBC described the impact as severe, with one female passenger reporting being thrown from her seat, and sustaining soreness on her left side. At least one man was seen limping as he exited the train and was later taken to an ambulance for physical pain complaints.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.

AAC Lead Counsel in the Placentia Metrolink Accident

As lead counsel, our firm represented ten plaintiffs in a deadly crash involving a Metrolink train, obtaining a significant settlement on their behalf.

During morning rush hour, a Burlington Northern freight train collided head-on with a Metrolink train, resulting in three deaths and over 260 injuries.

Federal investigators concluded that the collision resulted from the Burlington Northerncrew’s inattention to a warning signal, aggravated by the absence of an automaticbraking system.

Our lawsuits claimed that Burlington Northern’s negligence endangered lives, arguing that automatic braking systems could have prevented the crash. We also alleged crew fatigue and a conductor prone to missing signals.

Despite Burlington Northern arguing that specific federal provisions exempted it from punitive damages, our trial attorneys persevered by contending that federal law does not cover internal safety violations.

“We believe safety was compromised due to specific rail procedures,” AAC’s founding partner, Wylie Aitken, told the LA Times.

Pursuing an injury claim against these entities requires adherence to specific regulations and procedures. Skilled Metrolink, Amtrak, and Railroad Accident Lawyers

Aitken * Aitken * Cohn is dedicated to advocating for railroad passengers’ rights, providing unwavering support throughout legal proceedings. Our experienced Orange County railroad accident attorneys understand the complexities of cases involving Amtrak and other common carriers in California.

Railroads are considered common carriers that owe passengers a heightened duty of care. They are held responsible for any negligence that compromises passenger safety. Whether it’s a train derailment, platform slip, or crossing injury, railroads may be liable for damages resulting from their negligence.

Special laws known as “tort claims acts” may apply in cases involving government-operated railroads. These laws often require prompt notice of injuries and have shorter statutes of limitations, typically six months.

Our attorneys are ready to fight for your rights if you’ve suffered injuries in a railroad accident. We’ll stand by you every step of the way, ensuring you receive the compensation you deserve.
