$350,000: Drunk Driver Causes Freeway Crash

CASE DESCRIPTION: On January 29, 2011, Frank A. was driving he and his wife, Ana A., southbound in the number three lane on Interstate 605 in Norwalk in their 2005 Lincoln Town Car.

In a fraction of a second, and without time to take any evasive maneuvers, the front of Frank’s vehicle was struck from the right by a 2008 Black BMW X3 driven by defendant Johnson K., who was later determined to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.

RESULTS: $350,000

DATE OF SETTLEMENT: April 13,2012

INJURIES: Frank was diagnosed with bilateral forearm skin tears and abrasions, as well as a contusion to his chest.

Ana suffered abrasions, contusions to her left chest and left side. A CT scan performed indicated she had suffered a pulmonary contusion. She suffered a very large left breast hematoma. Further work-up confirmed several pulmonary emboli and the presence of non-displaced rib fractures.

Ana was admitted to Kaiser Hospital and monitored for more than a week. She remained on Coumadin for one year following the accident.
