$100,000: Intoxicated Driver Causes Collision

CASE DESCRIPTION: On August 27, 2011, Lauren D. was driving her 2003 Saturn Northbound on Valley View St. in the number one lane in the City of Cypress. As she approached the intersection at Orangewood, Defendant made a left hand turn directly in front of her. The front of her vehicle struck Defendant’s 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser vehicle driven by Defendant Theodore C. who was later determined intoxicated at the time of incident.

DATE OF SETTLEMENT: December 26, 2012

INJURIES: Lauren was taken from the scene by ambulance to Los Alamitos Medical Center where she was diagnosed with a comminuted fracture centered in the lateral epicondyle, extending to the distal humerus of her left elbow. She underwent an open reduction and internal fixation of her left intra-articular distal humerus, a transposition of her left ulnar nerve, and an olecranon osteotomy of her left elbow.

Following surgery, Lauren participated in aggressive rehabilitation, including physical therapy. She continued to suffer from severe pain in her left forearm, elbow, wrist, hand, and shoulder due the the severity of her injury and her subsequent surgery.

She then underwent a second surgery to remove the titanium screws and plates from her left arm.
