$40,000: Unleashed Golden Retriever Attacks Pet Sitter

CASE DESCRIPTION:  A dog under the Plaintiff’s care was attacked by an unleashed dog.  While trying to separate the animals the plaintiff was bit several times by the attacking dog.  Plaintiff brought suit for her personal injuries.

RESULT:  $40,000.00 total settlement

Plaintiff is a pet sitter, who received substantial injuries when she was bitten by Defendant’s unleashed dog.  The incident occurred at an Irvine park while Plaintiff was taking a client’s dog, Riley, for a walk.  Plaintiff noticed Defendant’s dog, Shadow, approaching without a leash and called out for Defendant to put a leash on her dog.  Shadow attacked Riley and Plaintiff suffered several bites to her left forearm when she tried to separate the dogs.

INJURIES:  Plaintiff suffered several deep puncture wounds requiring numerous stitches.  These wounds left severe unattractive scarring and require plastic surgery for scar revision.  In addition, Plaintiff suffered serious psychological injury and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

DATE & LOCATION OF INCIDENT:  On 7/22/02 in the city of Irvine.
